God’s Absolute Perfection
By Deacon Edward Mamangon
Key Verse: Exodus 3:6-15; Exodus 34:6-7
The LORD our God, is the One true and Living God who revealed Himself in the Scriptures. He is the only being, self-existing in and of himself, eternal and infinite. Yet His absolute perfection is perfectly displayed in his faithfulness, mercy, grace, love and justice. In his perfect freedom, He graciously revealed himself and dwells with His people without ceasing to be exalted above all creation.
I. The Lord Our God is Infinitely Perfect in His Being (Exo 3: 14-15)
- He is the true living God revealed in the scriptures
- He is the only Being, Self-Existing in and of himself
- He is eternal and infinite
- He is Immutable (unchangeable)
Warnings/Sins to mortify:
- A distorted view of God and an insufficient understanding of Him results in trivial and irreverent worship.
- When our worship is not shaped by God’s self-revelation, we end up worshipping a god of our own making. We fall to idolatry
- A low view of God leads to careless and sinful living (practical atheism)
Right theology must shape our Worship and our daily living.
II. The Lord Our God is Graciously Present with His People (Exo. 3:6-9; 3:12)
A. His Absolute perfection is displayed in (Exo 34:6-7)
- Faithfulness
- Mercy
- Grace
- Love
- Justice
B. In perfect freedom he entered into covenant with his people
Warnings/Sins to mortify:
- Separating God’s mercy and love from His Holiness leads to distorted view of Salvation.
- Overemphasizing God’s grace and disregarding His perfect Law leads to licentious life.
- Since God is the God of the covenant, let us draw near to Him in repentance and faith.
- God’s perfection in His Being cannot be separated from His character, let this truth be our greatest comfort and confidence that He’ll be faithful and He’s able to save to the uttermost. To God be all the Glory!
